Privacy policy

Last updated November 6, 2026.

This policy explains what information TheGolfShock ("we") collects when you use thegolfshock.com or its golf site, thegolfshock.com. Both sites share the same accounts and servers, and this policy covers both.

Information you enter

The numbers you type into a calculator, and any budgets you save to My Trips, the spending you track, your travel profile and favorites, and the place you're leaving from, are stored in your own browser so they're there when you come back. Unless you sign in to an account (see below), they are not sent to us, and we can't see them. You can delete saved budgets on the My Trips page, reset a calculator with "Reset estimates", or clear your browser's site data.

Accounts (optional)

You can use every calculator without an account. If you choose to create one, we store your email address and a copy of your travel profile, saved budgets, tracked spending and favorites, so they appear on every device where you sign in. Accessibility notes in your profile are never sent to us; they stay in your browser.

We use this information only to run your account. We don't sell it, share it with advertisers or send marketing email unless you sign up for it separately. Account data is stored with our hosting provider, Cloudflare. Sign-in emails are sent through our email provider, Resend, which receives your email address only to deliver them.

When you're signed in, we set one cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 60 days. It isn't used for tracking. You can download everything we store about you, or delete your account and that data, at any time on the Account page.

Golf groups

On the golf site, an organizer can start a group for a golf trip and invite people by email. When you invite someone, we store their email address with the group and send them one invitation email through Resend. The organizer can see each invited person's email address and whether they've joined; other members see only names.

To join a group and vote, you sign in or create a free account. Your account is then linked to the group, so the trip appears under My Trips. The group sees the name you give and your votes (courses, places to stay, kinds of food and anything you ask for). If you answer the budget question, your number is never shown to anyone: the group only ever sees its lowest number, and only once at least three people have answered. Shared scorecards are visible to everyone in the group.

Your golfer profile (first and last name, what you want to be called, handicap, home city, and any Venmo, Cash App or PayPal usernames you add so your group can pay you back) is saved to your account and shown only to people who have joined a golf group with you. The pay buttons open that app with the amount filled in; the payment happens in the app, between you and the other person, and we never see or handle the money. Payments ticked off as paid in the settle-up are visible to the group. Deleting your account removes your golfer profile and payment usernames.

Groups, their members' email addresses, votes and scores are deleted automatically about 13 months after the group was last used. Deleting your account removes your group memberships, invitations to your email address and your votes. If you get an invitation you don't want, ignore it; we won't email you again unless the organizer sends a new invite.

Golf reminders and course reviews

If you ask us to remind you to plan next year's golf trip, we store your email address and send one confirmation email. Once the reminder is sent, or if you cancel it, we delete your address. Unconfirmed requests are deleted after 7 days.

If you rate a course, your star rating counts right away. A written comment is shown only after we review it, with the first name you give (if any). We keep an anonymous code so you can update your own rating, not your email or name.

Budget links

When you use "Copy link", the link itself contains your budget numbers (such as travelers, nights and costs) so it can open the same budget on another device. Anyone you share the link with can see those numbers. The link contains no name, email or other personal details.

Analytics

We count visits anonymously to see which pages are popular: the page you viewed, the site or link that sent you here, which partner links get clicked, which site features are used (for example, which attractions are picked in a planner) and, from your connection, your country and whether you're on a phone, tablet or computer. To count how many different people visit each day, our server combines your IP address and browser type with a secret value and that day's date, and keeps only a scrambled code that can't be turned back into your IP address. The code changes every day, so you can't be followed from one day to the next. We don't use cookies for this, don't store IP addresses and don't create lasting visitor IDs. If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal, we don't count your visit at all.

Flight prices

When you press "Check real fares", our server looks up the airports and month you chose with our flight data partner, Travelpayouts (Aviasales). Only the airport codes and month are sent, never your name, email or other details.

Affiliate links

When you click an affiliate link, the partner site may set cookies to record that you came from TheGolfShock. Their own privacy policies apply once you leave this site.

Advertising

If we show ads in the future, ad partners such as Google may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized ads at Google Ad Settings. This policy will be updated before ads appear.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
